Wealthsimple pays a cash bonus to new clients who sign up with a referral link, and a bonus to the person who referred them. The amount and the deposit condition change from time to time, so the referral landing page shows the current offer. This page covers the invite code, how to claim the bonus and what to check first. For the account itself, see the Wealthsimple Cash review; other fintechs are in the bank and fintech reviews.
Referral code and invite link
The button below opens a new Wealthsimple account with the referral applied automatically, or you can enter the invite code yourself on Wealthsimple’s site.
How to claim the bonus
- Open the invite link above or go to
wealthsimple.com/invite/WZ0ZTA. - Create your account: you’ll need a valid email address, your SIN and government-issued photo ID.
- Complete identity verification in the app.
- Meet the qualifying deposit condition shown on the referral landing page; Wealthsimple’s terms have changed during the year and can change again.
- Receive the bonus in your Wealthsimple Chequing account once the condition is met.
What the account is
Wealthsimple Chequing (still widely called Wealthsimple Cash) has no monthly fee at any tier, pays interest that rises with your total Wealthsimple assets, and comes with a prepaid card with no foreign exchange fee. Its interest is taxable because the account can’t be held in a TFSA. The rate tiers, fees, card and deposit protection are all in the Wealthsimple Cash review, which also compares its after-tax return with a TFSA savings account at EQ Bank.
Who the account suits
- People already using Wealthsimple’s investing products, since transfers between Chequing and investing accounts are instant.
- Travellers and people who spend in foreign currencies, through the no-FX-fee card and ATM surcharge reimbursement.
- People consolidating spending, savings and investing on one platform.
It is a weaker fit for anyone who wants a TFSA or RRSP savings account in the same product; those are separate at Wealthsimple. Other no-fee accounts are compared in the best no-fee chequing accounts, and KOHO and Neo Financial have their own reviews.
