CIBC and Simplii Financial: Same Institution Number
Simplii Financial is a division of CIBC (not a separate bank), so it uses the same institution number:
| Bank | Institution Number | Key Difference |
|---|---|---|
| CIBC | 010 | Branch-based transit numbers; physical branches |
| Simplii Financial | 010 | Online-only transit numbers; no physical branches (uses CIBC ATMs) |
How this affects you:
- If someone asks for your “bank,” Simplii clients should specify Simplii Financial (not CIBC), even though the institution number is the same
- Simplii accounts have their own transit number — do not use your nearby CIBC branch’s transit number for a Simplii account
- For CRA or payroll setup, enter the transit number shown in your Simplii Online Banking, not a CIBC branch number
Finding Your Simplii Routing Number
- Log in to Simplii Financial Online Banking
- Click on the account
- Navigate to “Account Details”
- Your transit number and institution number (010) are displayed
- You can download a direct deposit form (void cheque) as a PDF
Simplii typically uses the transit number 00002 for most accounts, but always verify in your online banking.
CIBC Routing Number for Specific Purposes
| Purpose | What You Need | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Payroll direct deposit | Transit (5) + 010 + account | Void cheque or direct deposit form |
| CRA tax refund | Transit (5) + 010 + account | Enter in My CRA Account |
| CPP / OAS / EI | Transit (5) + 010 + account | My Service Canada Account |
| Pre-authorized payments | Transit (5) + 010 + account | PAD form |
| International wire (incoming) | SWIFT: CIBCCATT + transit + account | Provide to sender |
| CIBC Investor’s Edge link | IE has own account numbers | Check CIBC IE platform |
| Interac e-Transfer | Not needed | Uses email or phone |
CIBC EFT Routing Number (9-Digit Format)
Format: 0 + Institution number + Transit number
Example: 0 + 010 + 00002 = 001000002
Use this 9-digit format when a payroll system or government form specifically requests it.
CIBC SWIFT Code
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| SWIFT/BIC code | CIBCCATT |
| Bank name | Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce |
| City | Toronto |
| Country | Canada (CA) |

- Bank address: CIBC, Commerce Court, 199 Bay Street, Toronto, ON M5L 1A2
CIBC Account Types

| CIBC TFSA Tax Advantage Savings | 010 | Verify transit in online banking |

Troubleshooting
| Issue | Solution |
|---|---|
| Confused CIBC and Simplii transit numbers | Same institution (010) but different transit numbers; check your specific account |
| Form asks for 9-digit routing number | Use EFT format: 0 + 010 + your 5-digit transit |
| Direct deposit going to wrong account | Verify both transit AND account number; a CIBC transit with Simplii account number won’t work |
| CIBC Investor’s Edge routing | Investment accounts have separate routing; check IE platform |
| International wire not arriving | Confirm SWIFT code (CIBCCATT) with sender; CIBC may require a forex handling reference |
