National Bank Fees (2026): Minimalist, Connected and Total Plans, NSF, ATM and Wire Fees

Updated

National Bank’s personal chequing lineup has three packages: The Minimalist, a flat-fee plan for electronic banking, and The Connected and The Total, which are waived when you keep a minimum balance. This page lists each package’s fee and the service charges outside it. The Canadian bank fees comparison sets National Bank against the other banks.

As the ATM row shows, National Bank clients can also withdraw without a fee at machines in THE EXCHANGE, a network shared with credit unions and other institutions; how the ATM networks work is explained in the ATM withdrawal limits roundup. How much you can send by e-Transfer is on the National Bank e-Transfer limits page.

NSF and overdraft fees

FeeAmount
NSF (returned item)$10.00 (CAD accounts), $5.00 (USD accounts)
Overdraft protection$5.00/day (Specific Funds Transfer overdraft protection, via a linked deposit account, margin account, or National Bank Mastercard)

Federal rules cap the NSF fee on personal deposit accounts. National Bank charges its overdraft fee per day the protection is used rather than as a monthly plan fee; NSF fees and overdraft compared shows how that changes the comparison with an NSF fee.

Credit cards and investing

National Bank Mastercard cards have their own annual fees and foreign currency charges, listed in the credit card comparison. Commissions and account fees at National Bank’s brokerage are in the National Bank Direct Brokerage review.

National Bank’s branches, apps and who its accounts suit are covered in the National Bank review, its transit and institution numbers on the National Bank routing number page, and its service lines in National Bank customer service.
