Desjardins sets one personal Interac e-Transfer sending limit: $5,000 per transfer and per 24-hour period. It does not offer increases on request. Members can receive up to $25,000 per transfer, and sending is free on Desjardins transaction plans.
Desjardins e-Transfer limits at a glance
| Limit | Desjardins personal accounts |
|---|---|
| Sending, per transfer and per 24 hours | $5,000 |
| Receiving, per transfer | $25,000 |
| Limit increase available | No |
Because the per-transfer and 24-hour limits are the same, a single $5,000 transfer uses the day’s room, and the next one can go 24 hours later.
Desjardins e-Transfer fees
Desjardins says sending an e-Transfer is free on its transaction plans (Basic, Intermediate, Unlimited and Unlimited Plus), and its fee schedule does not bill sends as a separate transaction. Cancelling a sent e-Transfer: Free if cancelled before 11:59 PM ET the day it's sent; $3.50 after. The plans and their monthly fees are in the Desjardins fees guide.
Sending more than the limit
Since the limit can’t be raised, larger amounts go through your caisse:
- Wire: Between $2.00 and $15.00 within Canada; between $0.00 and $7.50 to a Desjardins Bank account; between $4.00 and $15.00 outside Canada (amount depends on channel/method used). How wires work generally is explained in wire transfers in Canada.
- Bank draft: $9.50 issuance (all currencies); reimbursement or photocopy between $10.00 and $50.00. The guide to getting a bank draft in Canada covers when one is asked for.
- Splitting the payment over several days, $5,000 at a time.
AccèsD’s “Inter-institution transfers” feature only pulls money into your Desjardins account from another Canadian institution; personal AccèsD does not send an outbound transfer to an external account.
Sending and receiving with AccèsD
In AccèsD online and the Desjardins app, e-Transfers are under Interac e-Transfer, where you also register for Autodeposit. The general steps for sending, receiving and Autodeposit are in the Interac e-Transfer guide.
Desjardins’ limit is set out next to other institutions’ in the e-Transfer limits comparison, including National Bank’s e-Transfer limits. Other limit types are in the bank limits hub.
