Desjardins Institution Number (815), Caisse Transit and SWIFT Code

Updated

Desjardins caisses in Quebec clear under institution number 815, the Fédération des caisses Desjardins du Québec, while Caisse Desjardins Ontario Credit Union Inc. has 829 in Payments Canada’s list. There is no single Desjardins transit: each caisse has its own transit, and the account number is 7 digits in total, including a 6-digit folio number and 1 check digit. This page sets out the numbers, which of the two institution numbers is yours, how the transit and folio fit together, the direct deposit form, the SWIFT code and Desjardins’s phone line.

Which Desjardins institution number is yours

815 is the institution number of the Fédération des caisses Desjardins du Québec, the number a Quebec caisse page shows; Caisse Desjardins Ontario Credit Union Inc. is 829 in Payments Canada's list.

The Ontario entity dates from an amalgamation: Payments Canada records that the caisses populaires that formed La Fédération des caisses populaires de l’Ontario Inc., which already held 829, became one entity, Caisse Desjardins Ontario Credit Union Inc., on January 1, 2020. Desjardins says your numbers, the institution number among them, are in AccèsD and on your cheques.

Your caisse transit and folio number

Each caisse has its own 5-digit transit number, which Desjardins writes with the institution number first (for example 815-20100 for Caisse Desjardins de Québec). On a cheque the transit sits between the cheque number and the institution number.

That written form puts the institution number ahead of the transit, so on a form with separate boxes, the part after the dash goes in the transit box and the part before it in the institution box. The account number is the third piece: 7 digits in total, including a 6-digit folio number and 1 check digit, according to Desjardins’s direct deposit page. The three numbers are in AccèsD and on your cheques, and where the numbers are on a cheque shows a cheque’s bottom line.

Desjardins direct deposit form or void cheque

For direct deposit, Desjardins names two options: Desjardins's direct deposit enrollment form (PDF), completed for the employer, or a void cheque.

The form is a PDF linked from Desjardins’s direct deposit page as “Fill out an enrollment form”: the direct deposit enrollment form. Voiding a paper cheque is covered on how to void a cheque, what an employer does with the details on setting up direct deposit, and federal benefits on CRA direct deposit.

Receiving a wire at Desjardins: SWIFT code

For money coming from abroad, Desjardins’s international transfers page gives CCDQCAMM as its BIC/SWIFT code. The same page asks a member expecting a transfer, in Canadian dollars, US dollars or another currency, to fill out the matching section of its Incoming wire transfer form and send it to the person sending the money. The codes of other institutions are on SWIFT codes for Canadian banks, wires in general on wire transfers in Canada, and the sender’s side on sending money to Canada.

Desjardins phone and help

Desjardins’s AccèsD page lists these phone numbers for help: 1-800-224-7737 (Montreal area: 514-224-7737). The Desjardins locator finds each caisse, and the Caisse Desjardins de Québec page there, for example, shows its transit with its contact details and business hours. Lost cards are covered on Desjardins’s card help, complaints on bank complaints, and closures on bank holidays.

Desjardins alongside other credit unions is on credit unions in Canada, and other institutions’ numbers on institution numbers.
