RBC Customer Service Canada 2026 | Phone, Chat & Branch Support

Updated

RBC offers several contact channels for personal banking support: phone, chat through Online Banking, in-app help through NOMI, and in-branch service across Canada. Phone support at 1-800-769-2511 is available 24/7 and is the fastest route for urgent matters such as lost cards, transaction disputes and limit increases. For what RBC offers and who it suits, see the RBC review.

Online and In-App Support

Chat (Online Banking / RBC Mobile)

RBC’s “Chat Now” feature is in RBC Online Banking and the RBC Mobile app, under the Help (question-mark) icon. It isn’t real-time: RBC doesn’t publish fixed chat hours, and a reply typically arrives within a few hours. It suits:

  • Account and balance questions
  • Transaction explanations
  • General product questions
  • Bill payment setup

For anything urgent (a lost card, a suspected fraudulent transaction, a same-day limit increase), the 24/7 phone line is faster than chat.

NOMI, RBC’s Virtual Assistant

NOMI is RBC’s AI-powered assistant in the RBC Mobile app. It answers common account questions (balances, recent transactions, spending summaries) without a live agent. It doesn’t handle disputes, complaints or complex account changes.

In-App Card Controls

Through the RBC Mobile app you can handle common service tasks without calling:

  • Freeze or unfreeze your debit card
  • Set spending alerts
  • Temporarily increase daily limits (some account types)
  • View e-Transfer history (amounts are on the RBC e-Transfer limit page; every bank’s are in e-Transfer limits in Canada)
  • Download void cheques and direct deposit forms

If your card is lost or stolen rather than misplaced, see what to do about a lost debit card.

In-Branch Service and Hours

RBC has branches across Canada; hours vary by location, so the branch locator on rbcroyalbank.com is the place to check a branch’s hours before you go. Many branches take online bookings for advisor meetings. An in-branch appointment suits:

  • Mortgage applications and renewals
  • Opening new accounts (especially business accounts)
  • Large cash transactions
  • Estate and inheritance matters
  • Signature guarantees (medallion)
  • Safe deposit box access

Statutory-holiday closures are listed in bank holiday hours in Canada.

Social Media

RBC runs social media accounts for general questions and for directing you to the right department. They aren’t a secure channel for account numbers, SINs or passwords; account-specific matters go through the phone or secure chat.

RBC’s Complaint Process

RBC’s published process has two internal steps. There is no public “RBC Ombudsman” phone line or email; the internal appeal office’s contact details come in RBC’s written response.

  1. Front-line resolution: raise the issue with the branch, the call centre (1-800-769-2511) or your advisor, and ask for a supervisor or manager if it isn’t resolved.
  2. RBC Client Complaints Appeal Office (CCAO): if front-line escalation doesn’t resolve it, RBC’s written final response explains how to take the complaint to the CCAO for an internal review.

If RBC’s process doesn’t settle it, the complaint can go to the external body, OBSI: how to complain about a bank in Canada covers when and how.

Tips for Faster Service

  • Call early (7 to 9 AM ET) or mid-afternoon on weekdays; waits tend to be shorter than on Monday mornings or at month-end.
  • Use the app first for balances, e-Transfer history and card freezes.
  • Have your client card number ready: RBC verifies your identity before discussing account details.
  • Ask for a callback when waits are long instead of holding.
