Quebec had the highest median individual income of the ten provinces in 2024, $46,100, yet its average individual income of $57,200 ranked fifth-highest. The distance between Quebec’s average and median ($11,100) was narrower than Canada’s ($15,000). Quebec’s average individual income was 3.7% below the national average, and its median 3.8% above the national median. Counted by household, the median after-tax income for families and unattached individuals ranked fifth-lowest; economic families had a median of $103,200 after tax and Quebecers living outside a family $40,600.

Quebec incomes since 2014
In constant 2024 dollars, Quebec’s median individual income went from $40,100 in 2014 to $46,100, 15% above its starting point, against a national median 8% above its 2014 level. The household after-tax median went from $61,300 to $68,800.
Montreal, Quebec City and the regions
The CIS reports two metro areas wholly in Quebec; a third, Ottawa-Gatineau, straddles the Ontario border and is on the Ottawa income page. In 2024 the median individual income was $45,000 in Montreal and $51,400 in Quebec City; counted by family, the after-tax medians were $70,100 and $68,700.
Tax-filer data (Table 11-10-0008-01, 2023 income before tax) reach the regional centres: $44,290 in Sherbrooke, $46,940 in Saguenay, $43,310 in Trois-Rivières and $53,970 in the Quebec part of Ottawa-Gatineau. Among the 29 areas entirely within Quebec in the table, Quebec City had the highest median ($51,500) and Lachute the lowest ($36,920).
