Canada Greener Homes Grant and Loan: Closed, and What Replaced Them

The Canada Greener Homes Grant and the Canada Greener Homes Loan helped homeowners pay for energy retrofits such as insulation, windows and heat pumps, based on an EnerGuide home evaluation. Both are now closed to new applicants. This page explains their status and the programs that fund retrofits today. Other programs are in the benefits guide.

The Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program

The Affordability Program pays for recommended retrofits, so eligible homeowners and tenants have no out-of-pocket cost. It’s for low- to median-income households and is delivered through provincial and territorial partners, who set the local income limits and take applications. The aim is to lower monthly energy bills. Not every province takes part: Natural Resources Canada’s Affordability Program page lists the provinces where residents can apply and links to each one’s program.

Other retrofit help

Many provinces, territories and utilities run their own rebates for insulation, heat pumps and other upgrades, and some can be combined. Check your provincial energy ministry and your electricity or gas utility for current programs, since they change often.
