Ottawa Property Tax 2026 | Tax Rate & Calculator

Updated

Ottawa’s residential property tax rate is approximately 1.01% of assessed value. The City of Ottawa sets the rate, which combines the city’s own levy with the provincial education levy, and applies it to the value the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) puts on your home. The property tax in Canada page explains how the two combine and compares cities, and the property tax calculator estimates a bill at any rate.

Assessment

Because Ontario still taxes on values as of January 1, 2016, an Ottawa home’s assessed value can be well below what it would sell for today, which keeps bills lower than a current-value assessment would. If you think MPAC’s value is wrong, appealing your property assessment covers the Request for Reconsideration and the Assessment Review Board.
